1931 Meccano LTD started the production of model railwy accessories. They made figures to the following themes: Railway personnel, voyagers and hotel personnel. After 2 years the program was enlarged by a series of elegant sports cars. Under the name Dinky Toys a new product line of cars, passenger ships and aeroplanes started in 1934. After WWII Meccano LTD had the same success as before and widened their range by the Dinky Supertoys. 1958 the Austin A105 Saloon was introduced, the first Dinky Toys with plastic windows.
In the 70ies the sitiation worsened suddenly for Meccano LTD. Cheap electronic toys from Asia and higher production costs brought the end in 1979. |
